ANALYSIS OF THE FEATURES OF THE CLINICAL COURSE OF PERIODONTAL TISSUE DISEASES IN YOUNG PATIENTS WITH GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES

Abstract

The aim. To investigate and analyse the impact of gastrointestinal diseases on periodontal tissues. Materials and methods of the study. The study involved 45 people aged 18-23 years, who were divided into two groups: the main group consisted of 22 patients with periodontal disease with concomitant chronic gastritis and gastroduodenitis, who were undergoing a medical examination by a general practitioner and receiving appropriate therapy, and the comparison group included 23 people with periodontal tissue pathology but no concomitant somatic pathology. The examination was conducted at the Dental Medical Centre of Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University. To assess the hygienic state of the oral cavity, the Green-Vermillion hygiene index was used. The CPITN index was used to determine the need for periodontal disease treatment. To assess the severity of gingival inflammation, the papillarymarginal- alveolar index (PMA) and the papillary bleeding index (PBI) were determined. Statistical processing was performed using the GraphPad Prism 5 software. Results of the study. In the main group, the majority of patients were patients with early stage GP, in the comparison group - patients with CGG. In group 1, the second place was occupied by CGG, in group 2 - by the I stage of GP. In group 1, II stage of GP was detected in two patients, in group 2 - in one patient. In patients of group 1, the OHI-S hygiene index was significantly worse by 1,3 times (p>0.05) than in patients of group 2. The data of the PMA index in patients of the main group were significantly higher by 1,5 times than in the comparison group. The data on gingival bleeding were 1,3 times higher than those of the group of somatically healthy patients. The CPITN index of patients in group 1 differed significantly by 1,2 times from those in group 2. Conclusions. Our studies indicate that patients with gastrointestinal pathology have a much more severe course of periodontal disease, which is provoked by the negative impact of somatic pathology. The results of the index assessment of oral hygiene and periodontal health in people with gastrointestinal diseases are significantly worse than those of patients without concomitant somatic diseases
